We are proud to announce our first annual film festival to happen as part of the Hypericon Convention! Members of fandom are some of the most creative people out there and we hope that with this festival we can call some of you to action and get you involved in making films. Along with the festival the Filmmaking Track Program will feature workshops and panels for up and coming filmmakers and those just getting interested in the medium. All filmmakers whose films are accepted into the festival will receive a badge to come to the convention as well as potentially winning prizes for their film. We are looking for films of all genres and styles from drama to horror to sci-fi to experimental. The only limitations are those covered in the official guidelines. The most important thing to note is length. We are only accepting short films for this festival, no features. Please check out the guidelines for specifics. Check back here for more information as we have it available.
We do have one special category we are looking for submissions to:
Mash ups / Music Videos / Machinema
There will be an award for best mash up, machinema, or music video. These are short videos set to music, short films made from video game footage, or that use clips from popular shows to create something new and humorous. If you want to see some examples of mash ups do a quick search on You Tube. Machinema are videos made with videogames. There are also plenty of these available on You Tube for reference. The most well known machinema is easily Red VS. Blue made from the Halo games. If we get enough good submissions for mash ups, machinema, and music videos we may break these into separate categories. HereĠs a hint, we are not part of an anime convention so weĠd like to see videos based on science fiction, fantasy, horror or some other genre besides anime.
Every precaution will be exercised in handling entries and screening copies of films, but neither the festival organizers, employees, sponsors, nor participating organizations can assume responsibility for damage to or loss of materials submitted.
Submission of a work confirms that the Film Festival has permission to exhibit it (and any moving image excerpts or reproduced stills) during the festival and for any publicity or promotion.
Submission of a work acknowledges agreement to all conditions and terms and the holding of all necessary rights to submission.
